Great evening for trail work

I was concerned about heat, mosquitoes, and mud for the Tranquility Trail Day on Wednesday April 23rd. But fortunately none of those things were an issue. Temps in the mid 80s and a 10mph north wind made the work real comfortable. Nine of us were able to get a decent inner loop bypass cut with the help of a rented sod cutter. There were some large trees needing to be cleared from the north creek. Water bars the route rain off the trail were cleaned out and problems created by all the rain were addressed. We are all looking forward to a DRY Monday Night Ride next week. See you at the "Hail to the Trails" THOR event tonight.

Solo Monday Night Ride

The singletrack being muddy left me looking for other options to get a ride in last night. Noticed there was a trail of crushed limestone up at Praire View Lake in Bennington, NE. I like the sound and feel of riding crushed limestone so that was my destination. Not a bad evening for mid June. No wind and temps in the 70s. If it doesn't rain today the dirt should dry out.

Like a duck in water

That would be the best way to describe Doug L. in a kayak, "Like a duck in water". Doug and I spent the better part of the afternoon in Prairie View Lake at Bennington today. This is the small lake just west of Newport Landing. We found some amazing backwater channels. These places might have been more navigable today because of all the rain we have had lately. There was an incredible amount of water fowl at this lake. Canadian Geese and Mallard Ducks were everywhere. The sun came out for the last part of our paddle. Super great way to spend a Friday afternoon. Thanks Doug!

Prairie View Lake is located two miles west of Bennington. Take Old Highway 36 to 180 St. (Bennington Road). Turn right onto 180th St. The area is about 3/4 mile down the road.

The 2010 Bike Omaha Commuter Challenge!

I registered for the 2010 Bike Omaha Commuter Challenge. At the time I registered my employer was not on the list so I selected the Bike Masters Team. Activate Omaha has organized some friendly competition between businesses/organizations to see who can pedal the most miles to and from work! You earn 10 points per trip and 1 point per mile. If for some reason your employer didn't get on the list join the Bike Masters team when you register. Then just report your rides weekly. Every trip and mile count towards making Omaha more bicycle friendly!!

Mower Down

I was mowing the trail head at Tranquility this morning. My goal was to mow the whole north creek but the handle on my mower failed. I suppose it wasn't really built for the kind of abuse trail mowing dishes out.
On a happy note...
Scott had the day off today also. He and I did some riding at Tranquility. Our goals of not crashing were met. I think this was Scott's first time on single track. He rode my Marin Palisades Trail and handled the trails with class.

Who is Stratomatic?

My photo
Stratomatica - is my blog place where I document things happening around me or that interest me. The name Strata, geologically speaking, are layers of sedimentary rock or soil with internally consistent characteristics that distinguish it from other layers. Too deep? Well, I like guitars. Mostly I like the sound and feel of Stratocasters.
